The tapestry of how God works through our opportunity and adversity continues to open up in the story of Joseph. Potiphar’s wife wrongly accused Joseph of being sexually intimate with her, and therefore led her husband to punish Joseph by throwing him in the prison. However, in the prison, we see God’s great love towards Joseph in that even in the prison he was not treated as a prisoner but as an inmate staff. Whilst Joseph was in prison two other employees from Pharaohs palace were also thrown in prison, Pharaoh’s baker and his butler, but this event would turn out to be a divine connection for Joseph.

Who would think that you can still make divine connection in a prison out of all places, one would think in a conference, business meeting, or event gathering would be suitable for a connection, however this connection encourages us that no matter what situation we may find ourselves, God makes divine connection even in the prison cell.

Pharaoh’s prisoners both had dreams, and Joseph interpreted the dreams acknowledging God as the reveller of dreams. We learn from Joseph that the gift of God is not inhibited by the conditions of our situations, it works powerfully and effectively even in a prison cell, not limited by adversity but rather shines brighter in our weakness. The gift of God is a comfort that our God is with us in all our adversity, His strength is made perfect in our weakness. The interpretations of the dreams were correct, the baker was assassinated, but the butler was restored to his position in the palace. Joseph urged the butler to please remember him so that he could also be released from prison.

This is the first time, Joseph shows his anguish about his condition, I can’t begin to imagine what it must have felt like to be betrayed by your own family members, knowing they are the main course you are standing in the prison of a foreign land. Even with his anguish for freedom we learnt that the Butler forgot about him, and Joseph would continue to remain in the prison cell until Pharaoh himself had a dream that could not be interpreted, by anyone else but Joseph.

Sometimes our lives may appear on hold, without any point of direction, but like Joseph we shouldn’t become discouraged because our time and season will change, when what we carry is what people are looking for. This happens when time and purpose collide, what wasn’t recognised before suddenly brings us to limelight. It is so important that we don’t give up when it looks as if our lives doesn’t have a meaning, confused about the future, and not sure if you’re going to make it. Let’s take encourage from Joseph that whatever dream we have on the inside if we hold on to God, He knows how to make our dream His reality.
